Property: Vanadium hydride is a transition metal hydride, in which scandium, vanadium, chromium, nickel, palladium, lanthanide, actinide and other elements can form binary compounds with hydrogen. Vanadium metal absorbs hydrogen and expands its lattice. The density of hydrides is about 6% to 10% lower than that of vanadium metal. Vanadium metal becomes brittle after absorbing hydrogen. Heating to 600 ℃~700 ℃ in vacuum causes the decomposition of vanadium hydride. With the release of hydrogen, the hardness of vanadium decreases and its plasticity is restored. Vanadium hydride does not react with water or boiling hydrochloric acid, but is oxidized by nitric acid.
